PV or photovoltaic material is what is used for the conversion of solar radiation to direct current (DC) electricity. There are several different types of materials that are used to make up the cell. The manufacturing of cells has been increasing since 2002, and continues to grow because of an even larger demand for renewable energy in the past couple of years. Continue reading and find out how PV solar is one of the most abundant forms of renewable energy.

Photovoltaics create solar power by using solar cells to convert the energy from the sun into electricity that we can use. They do this by the process of photovoltaic effect. This effect explains that photons of light roughly moving electrons into an higher state of energy that will then create the electricity. An inverter is necessary to convert the direct current (DC) electricity to alternating (AC) current.

Photovoltaics are created by using many different types of materials. Different types include but are not limited to cadmium telluride, copper indium selenide, polycrystalline silicon, etc. Polycrystalline silicon is one major contributor to the solar panel. By 2006, half the supply in the world was being used for creation of the solar panel. There were only twelve factories in production of the material in 2008.

Since the beginning of 2002, production of photovoltaics has increased by over twenty percent yearly. It is one of the most rapidly growing forms of energy technology in all of the world. At the end of 2009, installed installations of photovoltaics were over twenty-one thousand megawatts.

Many countries are in supporting the installation of photovoltaics for residential and commercial use. In fact, many governments are promoting such use by offering incentives for their installation. Because of the technological advances, and the increase in the manufacturing, the prices have been driven down, and the products are much more affordable.

We knew in 2008, that energy from solar power was able to provide the world with one thousand times the amount needed, but only two tenths was used. Based on the statistics, valuable resources are being wasted. Predictions are that every few years those figures will double. Solar energy is likely to become one the main sources of power for the world.

Do not close your mind to the idea of solar power, for fear of the sun not always being there. Scientists can predict with accuracy when it will and will not appear for the most part. Back up forms of energy can be used for days when it is raining or cloudy. There are plants that provide electric power operating on these principles currently.
